greetings
i work for uga libraries, and I actually met some of the uva folks at code4lib in providence this year11:33
<MrDys>hola
<smkiewel>(i was the long-haired blonde at d&b)
anyway, we were looking into evaluating blacklight as an option at our lib
and so i have been tasked with contacting the org
so i'm trying to find a good contact person for this (i'm thinking bess)11:34
and how to actually contact them, as i cant find that info on the sites
<MrDys>bess is kinda in the middle of a job transition right now, so I'm not sure how much time she would have11:35
are you going to be at code4lib this year?
<smkiewel>ahh, didnt know that
i'm hoping to, but with budget concerns, we're not sure yet
<MrDys>righto11:36
governance is pretty loose right now; most people are actively developing their blacklight installs11:37
so most of the folks involved on a 'contact'-y basis are the developers themselves11:38

<smkiewel>i see. hmm... big-wigs are wanting some kind of "vendor-presentation" to compete with serialssolutions' summon and whatnot11:39
<MrDys>gotcha
<smkiewel>any suggestions on where my next step for seeking contact would be?
<MrDys>probably the best thing would to be to send a message to the blacklight mailing list11:40
<smkiewel>excellent idea - thanks a ton :)

<erikhatcher>smkiewel: what kind of vendor presentation are you looking for?12:15
something blacklight specific? or more on the solr side of things?
<smkiewel>Blacklight specific really12:17
well not really
as most of them are not very familiar with solr either
<erikhatcher>smkiewel: i work at Lucid Imagination (a "vendor" of Solr solutions)12:18
<smkiewel>i'm pushing for solr in other areas as well and am about to begin exploring it myself
<erikhatcher>so maybe our heavy hitting management / biz dev. folks could speak to your big-wigs?
<smkiewel>that sounds promising :)12:19
<erikhatcher>i'll reply to you and our folks from your message on the list i just saw
<smkiewel>that would be great - thanks :D

<erikhatcher>good meetup last night, Naomi and bess ??
<bess>erikhatcher: yes, it was awesome!
we met Hoss
<Naomi>erikhatcher: hi. yes, good meetup
<bess>I learned a lot
<Naomi>Tom talked about Hathi trust commongrams
<bess>yeah, that was neat12:56
<erikhatcher>David was psyched to have met you!
Tom is super smart... what a gem of a find he was
<Naomi>wow - he talked to you already?
unfortunately, the presentations went on so long we didn't get to schmooze.
<erikhatcher>Naomi: we met Tom at the meetup where you spoke last at the computer history museum. he gave Grant and I a ride back to the hotel and we was so impressive we nudged him to join us
<Naomi>awesome.12:57
<erikhatcher>i e-mail back and forth with David almost constantly
<Naomi>i think i just edged myself out of the loop re: David + Stanford. :-(12:58
<erikhatcher>how so?
seems like you're quite in the loop
<Naomi>it's been ridiculously hard to get a meeting b/t david + tom + me
and now that we have bess (yay!)12:59
i suggested 2 out of 3
and i'm on vacation next week.
<erikhatcher>ah
<Naomi>bess has some great ideas (surprise!)
<erikhatcher>no surprise there
<bess>lol13:00
